When you do a water change get a jug push it into the water and just break the water line so the water surface flows into the jug, I do this with every water change

More surface agitation so the scum circulates in the water and reaches the skimmer

aim the return nozzle to the surface more to keep the floating scum in suspension so the skimmer can take it out. or drop your water level so it goes into the weir at the back

I get it if i've overfilled the tank slightly in relation to the return nozzles position. otherwise surface keeps clear.

Lay a sheet of kitchen towel on the surface and it should remove it, its a good idea to get rid of it because it can reduce light penetration.

I also have the nozzle pointing at the surface and the water line half way up the weir , results in a clean surface

About The Nano Reef

You can ask questions, debate different techniques, chat to other members and generally join in the fun. We aim to be the centre of excellence and the ultimate resource for all things Nano/Pico.

Whilst we mainly cater for tanks with display volumes less than 55 gallons, you will be sure of a warm welcome if you have a bigger tank. Nano tanks are gaining in popularity, but not just because they are an entry into the hobby. Many experienced and successful reefers are turning to Nano tanks either as an addition to a larger tank, or more often, instead of. Nano tanks are easier to maintain and cheaper to run, but more importantly they provide a much more intimate experience and a personal relationship with the various inhabitants and symbiotic relationships that exist in reef environments.
